Getting Started

Create or join a pool to start tracking expenses with your group.

Creating a Pool

  1. 1 Visit usedivvyup.com/create
  2. 2 Enter your pool name (e.g., "Beach Trip 2025")
  3. 3 Share the 6-letter code with your group

Joining a Pool

Got a code from a friend? Join in seconds:

Logging Receipts

Just snap a photo of your receipt and send it. That's it.

How it works

  • AI extracts the merchant, amount, and category
  • Foreign currencies convert automatically
  • Works with most receipts (restaurants, shops, taxis)

Tip: Clearer photos work better. If the AI can't read it, just type it manually.

Manual Expense Entry

No receipt? Just type what you spent. Keep it simple.

Checking Your Balance

See what's been spent and who's paid what.

What you'll see

  • Total amount spent by the group
  • Breakdown per person
  • Link to dashboard for full details

Also works: "summary", "status", "what's the total"

Recording Settlements

When someone pays you back, log it so the balance updates.

Direct method

Just say who and how much:

paid Alice $50
gave Bob 100 EUR
sent Charlie $75

Guided flow: Just send "settle" and DivvyUp will walk you through it step by step.

Excluding Personal Items

Bought something just for yourself on a shared receipt? No problem.

How it works

  1. 1 Log your receipt or expense as usual
  2. 2 Reply with the personal amount: "$10 personal"
  3. 3 That amount won't be split with the group

Note: Must be sent within 5 minutes of the receipt. Can't exclude more than the total.

Grouping with a Partner

Traveling as a couple? Group your accounts so settlements are calculated as one unit.

How it works

  1. 1 You send: "group with Sarah"
  2. 2 Sarah gets a notification
  3. 3 Sarah replies "accept"
  4. 4 You're now grouped! Expenses consolidate.

Flexible Share Weights for Families

Brought kids? Adjust your share so you pay your fair portion without creating accounts for children.

Share weight examples

  • Just you (default) 1.0
  • You + 1 child 1.5
  • You + 2 kids 2.0
  • You + partner + kid 2.5

Pro tip: Combine with "group with [partner]" so you and your partner share one account with an adjusted share weight.

Real-world example:

3 couples on a beach trip:
- The Smiths (2 kids): 2.0
- The Jones (1 kid): 1.5
- The Browns (no kids): 1.0

Total: 4.5 shares. Each family pays their proportional share automatically.
